I am just back from Kathmandu where I had gone for DQ Solution Provider Summit 2009. This is an annual event which is in its 4th year . LAst year it was held in Port Blair. The invitees for the event are the Solution Providers .
The Day 1 was Jan 9 . It began with an early morning flight at 6 am from Mumbai to Delhi. There was a break for few hours in Delhi during which we had some breakfast . Then we took a connecting flight from International Airport to Kathmandu. I was fortunate to get window seat on the flight to Kathmandu. And what a flight ! For about 30 minutes before touch down in Kathmandu, I got a great view of the Himalayas! Awesome is the word which comes to mind . We reached our Hotel Hyatt Regency and started our sessions at 4 pm and they continued till 8 pm. After that we had Dinner . Post Dinner I went to the Casino for some time. The next morning the Business sessions again started at 9 pm and continued till 2 pm. We had Lunch and then went off sight seeing. Evening was Dinner followed by mandatory visit to the Casino. The next morning i.e. Jan 11, was spent doing some shopping and then we were off to the Airport for journey back.
Among the Business Sessions , a few stood out . One was a session by Mckinsey and second by IDC . We got insights from THE Experts. Very clearly everyone was talking of and experiencing a slowdown. The mood was downbeat . But one comment made during IDC session was apt. The comment was that all of us are feeling low and down because we were expecting super growth to happen and therefore had aligned our cost structure accordingly. We all need to get realistic and understand that days of supergrowth are over. There will be growth for sure . But it will be moderate . So we need to reduce our expenses in line with lower growth or else we could be heading for trouble.
Another good session topic was succession planning . People discussed how succession planning can happen and why it is important. We also had a great session on Fund Management . This was very relevant considering the tight monetary conditions.
All in all, a great 3 Days spent on serious FUN and serious LEARNING !!!!
